Will Jaguar Mail be the 150th Melbourne Cup Winner this year? It all comes down to the horse being able to compete in the race in the first place. Jaguar Mail is a Japanese horse that is planning to take part in this years 150th Melbourne Cup. Craig Williams the rider of Jaguar Mail's win of the Tenno Sho would like to be racing the legendary horse in the Melbourne Cup in 2010.

There are hurdles though which must be overcome before Jaguar Mail will even get in to the race. Weight and quarantine are the two issues that horses from overseas face. The owner of the horse is Katsumi Yoshida. Yohshida has said that the weight of the horse will decide whether or not Jaguar Mail makes the trip.

There are very strict quarantine protocols which much be adhered to when bringing in a horse from overseas. Equine Influenza could affect horses coming from overseas and stop their chances of competing in any race.

Yoshida had sent Pop Rock and Delta Blues in to race the Melbourne Cup back in 2006. Delta Blues was the Melbourne Cup Winner and coming second was Pop Rock. So when Yoshida says that Jaguar Mail has performed just as well as Pop Rock and Delta Blues, the horse has a great chance at becoming the Melbourne Cup Winner.

Delta Blues carried 56kg which was 3kg more than Pop Rock and the minimum that year was 46kg. Last year the minimum weight was 50kg. Dale Monteith who is the Chief Executive of the Victorian Racing Club wants a very special 150th Melbourne Cup. He believes Japanese horses will bring a lot to the race.
